②神功皇后ゆかりの地・御船山編【(2) Mifuneyama, the land associated with Empress Jingu】

This time as well, I would like to continue to promote Takeo City, Saga Prefecture.
Last time, I posted “(1) Takeo Onsen, a land related to Empress Jingu”.
This time, I would like to introduce “Mifuneyama”, which is a famous sightseeing spot in Kyushu, with my own experience.

A view of Mifuneyama from Mifuneyama Rakuen (Ikezumi strolling garden). The combination with the autumn leaves is really beautiful.

御船山と神功皇后の関わり【Relationship between Mifuneyama and Empress Jingu】

A long time ago, it came to be called “Mifuneyama” from the legend that Empress Jingu was connected to “Mifune” during the triumphal return from the Sankan subjugation.
Like the previous Takeo Onsen, there are many legends related to Empress Jingu here in Takeo City.
Empress Jingu (Emperor Seimu 40-69) is the princess of Emperor Chuai and is said to have given birth to Emperor Ojin.
Although it is a person who appears in “Nihon Shoki”, it is unknown whether it is a real person or not, and there are rumors that it may be a person whose motif is Himiko, the queen of Yamatai…
If it were Himiko, wouldn’t it be decisive that the location of Yamatai was in northern Kyushu? I also think that there is another theory that it may be Amaterasu Omikami or Iyo (a relative of Himiko), so I’m worried about the truth.
I can definitely say that Ancient Northern Kyushu had a huge nation > That is.
In northern Kyushu, “Munakata Taisha”, “Yoshinogari Ruins”, “Kashiigu”, and Kim, which enshrine the Three Goddesses of Munakata, including “Okinoshima”, which is said to be the island where Shinto resides. There are countless places where you can feel the connection with the ancient times, such as “Shikanoshima” where the mark was found and “Iki”, the place where Shinto began.

I think that the Yamatai Kyushu theory is very convincing because there are many archaeological sites and shrines on which it is based.

御船山の魅力【The charm of Mifuneyama】

Mifuneyama is a mountain with an altitude of 210m and has been sung by school songs for a long time and has been loved by many people.
It is also called “Karafuneyama” because its appearance resembles “Karafune”.
Mifuneyama Rakuen (Ikezumi strolling garden) ” spreads out at the western foot of this mountain. ..
The view of Mifuneyama from here is really beautiful, and it is the best view that you can enjoy different scenery in any season of spring, summer, autumn and winter.
I went there in the fall, and the autumn leaves were very beautiful.
It is said that the 28th generation of Takeo lord, Shigeyoshi Nabeshima, spent about three years landscaping in this area to set up a villa.

御船山楽園の見どころ【Highlights of Mifuneyama Rakuen】

There are many attractions in the park, such as 200,000 azalea valleys, 170-year-old Ofuji, 2000 cherry trees, 170-year-old maples, 300-year-old Okusu, and 500 Arhats.
Even if you have an hour, you can just go around, so it is highly recommended for those who want to enjoy it slowly.
Among them, this time I would like to talk about “500 Rakan” because it is a history channel.

五百羅漢とは?【What is 500 Rakan?】

The 500 Rakan are the 500 disciples who followed Buddha.
It also refers to the image that is in the shape of it.
Therefore, there are many places where sculptures of 500 Arhats are enshrined and enshrined nationwide.
It is said that here in Mifuneyama, a famous priest Gyoki entered the mountain about 1300 years ago, carved 500 Rakan statues, including the Shaka Sanson statue, and placed them in a cave.
Gyoki broke his stomach while carving the Buddha, so he carved the three Buddhas with his ten fingernails to pray for his healing. There is also a legend. In addition, the water that comes out of the hole next to the three Buddhas is very effective in treating people with a bad stomach, and it is said that they have been drunk for a long time.
In my personal opinion, the reason why the legends of Gyoki in various parts of Japan were so created when there were no TVs or newspapers was that Gyoki, which had a very high reputation in the city, was not mentioned in various places.

五百羅漢の説明書き(Explanation of 500 Rakan)
御船山にも行基伝説がある。(There is a legend of Gyoki here in Mifuneyama.)

In this way, if you go after knowing not only the scenery but also the history of Mifuneyama, you will be able to see Mifuneyama from a different angle, and I think it will be even more enjoyable.
Why don’t you go to “Mifuneyama Rakuen”?

It will surely give a positive thing to your life.
