　読み方は『コウメ』で、久米南町の前身の一つである神目村だった地域です。

神目の地名は神社の祭祀を守る為に働いていた人々の事を指す「神部」に由来します。神部は神戸市の由来になっている神戸（かんべ）と同じです。

気になる由来ですが、駅近くに亀の甲羅のような岩（亀甲岩）があることから「亀甲」の名があります。

確かに亀みたいな岩ですね！！亀石は、亀甲駅から徒歩3分くらいの所にあります。
