平家落人と空海の伝説がある秘境「祖谷のかずら橋」【”Iyanokazura Bridge”, the place where the legend of Heike refugee and Kukai is located】

今回ご紹介させていただきますのは、徳島県三好市西祖谷山村善徳にある『祖谷のかずら橋』です。
皆様は「日本三大奇橋」をご存じでしょうか？
①山口県岩国市の錦帯橋・②山梨県大月市の猿橋。そして、③徳島県三好市の祖谷のかずら橋です！
今回は③徳島県三好市の祖谷のかずら橋の実像に迫っていきたいと思います。

祖谷かずら橋の起源は、時は源平合戦の最終決戦である「壇ノ浦の戦い」の後、敗れた平家は追ってから逃れるために日本全国の山奥に潜伏した。その一つとなっているのが徳島県の祖谷地方である。
祖谷は東西南北を山で囲まれており、当時は平家追討の命が全国に渡っていたが、
この地方に逃れた平教経（のりつね）【別名：国盛（くにもり）】はこの地で平家再興の望みを持ち続けながら過ごしたと言われている。
また、壇ノ浦の戦いで入水したと言われていた平家のシンボル・安徳天皇が、実はその前の屋島の戦い直後、平家の敗北を確信した教経が安徳天皇を奉じてお守りしながら、阿讃山脈を越えてこの地に逃れたという説もある。
真相は定かではないが、平家の血を継ぐ重要人物がこの地に逃れたことには間違いなさそうである。
そのため、かずら橋は「追手が来てもすぐに切り落とせるように葛を使って架設した」との伝説もあり、大変興味深い。もし、平家が逃れてきて蔓橋を架設したなら大変ロマンがある。

別の説では、讃岐国・善通寺出身の名僧・空海が祖谷に来たとき、困っている村民のために架けたという伝説もある。どちらの説にしろ、当時の超有名人物がこの地に足を踏み入れたという事実は間違いなさそうである。

※余談ではあるが、この祖谷地方には「子泣き爺」の妖怪伝承もある。
本来は老人の姿だが、夜道で赤ん坊のような産声をあげるとされていて、あの柳田國男の著書『妖怪談義』にも出てくる妖怪の一つだ。
真相は謎だが、この地方にはそのような不思議な現象がたびたび起きる集落であるとも考えられる。伝説とはそういうものだ。

古来、日本では神聖なる山に神が宿るとされていて、この四方八方が山で囲まれている祖谷には不思議な現象が度々起こることから、昔の阿波の人々は子泣き爺をこの地域の守り神として奉ったのではないだろうか。（個人的な見解）
2010年には、三好市の道の駅・大歩危(おおぼけ)に妖怪ミュージアムとして「こなき爺の里・妖怪屋敷」がオープンし、観光客を呼び込むために自治体も積極的に取り組んでいる。

祖谷のかずら橋の特徴【Features of Iyanokazura Bridge】

かずら橋は、重さ約5トンにもなるシラクチカズラで作られており、3年毎に架け替えが行われているとのことです。長さは45m・幅2m・水面上14mとなっているのが特徴で、私は一度渡ったことがあるのですが、高所恐怖症というのもあり、本当に怖かったです。（笑）
万が一落ちることのないように、隙間は足が入る程度に小さいのですが、それでも下を見ると腰が抜けてしまいそうでした。

一歩踏み出すだけで、ユラユラ揺れてスリル満点ですので、絶叫系が好きな方はオススメです！

「祖谷かずら橋」周辺の飲食店【Restaurants around “Iyanokazura Bridge”】

かずら橋周辺には、『かずら橋 夢舞台(ショッピングモール)』があり、祖谷名物のお土産（祖谷そば・三好の地酒・ゆずジャム・すだち麺・山くらげ）などが売っています。その中には「かずらばし亭」という祖谷そばをその場で食べられる場所もあります。名物をその場で食べられるのは良いですね！
また、有料の駐車場もあり、観光客の方はここで車を止めて、かずら橋へ行くことができます。

かずら橋へ行く道中にも、地元の食材を使った美味しい郷土料理(鮎の塩焼き・でこまわし・あめご・すだちうどんなど)が食べられる「やまざと（軽食店）」というお店があったり、「森のくまさん」というインスタ映えするオシャレなカフェもあります。観光客の方にとっては最高にありがたいですね！

There is also a pay parking lot where tourists can park their car and go to Kazura Bridge.
