【門司港】バナナの叩き売り発祥の地［Moji Port 〜 The birthplace of banana smashing］

今回は前回の焼きカレーに続き、門司港の隠れ観光名所をご紹介します。

大正時代初期に、門司港では「バナナの叩き売り」というものが催されていました。

バナナの叩き売りとは、かつての八百屋や露天商、的屋などが行う商売で、
通常、バナナの出荷は青いままのバナナを用いて、仲買人が競り売りを行って取引し、
引き取られた青いバナナは地下室で蒸されて黄色いバナナになってから市場に売り出されるものでした。

しかし、輸送中に蒸れた籠熟（かごうれ）バナナや加工中に生じた不良品で輸送ができないものは、
できるだけ早く換金するため、露天商らを通じて口上よろしく客を集め売り捌かれたのが、
「バナナの叩き売り」でした。

当時の門司港は、物流の拠点でもあり台湾などで出荷されたバナナを神戸に運ぶため、
門司港を経由したため、このような商売が誕生したとのことです。

私は、言葉自体初めて聞いたもので、どのようなものだったかはよくわかりませんが、
門司港は当時大変賑わったということなので、物流の拠点として、また九州の玄関口としての役割を全うされたのではと思います。かつての門司港の姿に思いを馳せる日になりました。

In the early Taisho era, a “banana smashing sale” was held at Mojiko.

Banana smashing is a business conducted by former greengrocers, street vendors, and Tekiya.
Normally, bananas are shipped using bananas that remain blue, and middlemen auction and trade.
The blue bananas that were picked up were steamed in the basement to become yellow bananas before they were put on the market.

However, if the bananas are steamed during transportation or defective products that are generated during processing and cannot be transported,
In order to cash in as soon as possible, customers were gathered and sold through street vendors.
It was a “banana smashing sale”.

At that time, Moji Port was also a distribution base and was used to transport bananas shipped from Taiwan to Kobe.
It is said that such a business was born because it passed through Moji Port.

I’ve never heard the word itself and I’m not sure what it was like,
Moji Port was very busy at that time, so I think it fulfilled its role as a logistics base and a gateway to Kyushu. It’s a day when you can think of what the former Moji Port looked like.
